Gubyon House, Herne Hill

Our clients commissioned us to create a side-infill extension and refurbishment to this Victorian terrace in Herne Hill, South London. They were seeking a private, protected enclave for an expanded kitchen-diner space, with improved access to daylight to the rear of their house.

Our designs lowered the kitchen floor, extending roof height to a more comfortable level, while also installing three roof lights in the flat roofed extension to the side of the property. Internal rafters enhance privacy and reduce the overlooked aspect from neighbouring upper floor windows. A picture window with interior window seat looks out over the garden, while bronze metal cladding reduces the overall impact of the exterior. The overall effect is subtle, clean and compact from the outside; spacious and open from within!
